Alta Marea began with a frustration I couldn’t ignore. After nearly two decades in beauty, and personal experience with UV-induced skin cancer, I saw from the inside just how broken the suncare category had become. The most effective products didn’t fit into real life: they felt like sticky white paint on the skin, left a visible cast, and didn’t layer well under makeup. The most desirable ones often lacked credibility.
In between, misinformation took hold. “Clean” claims that contradicted clinical evidence, trend-driven positioning, and independent testing revealing failed SPF claims from our favourite sunscreen brands.
We’ve been asked to choose: trust the science, or love the brand.
